One of the joys of Kentish Stores is meeting the many suppliers around the county. Mr Dain of Hurstwood Farm is one person who was a joy to meet. After a few miles down a long, narrow track, you find Hurstwood Farm in the middle of harvest time – a buzz of activity as the cobnuts – and walnuts are picked and placed, ready for sorting and de-husking. A visit to the bottling room reveals a squeaky clean cold pressing machine (from Germany) and a modern bottling plant where the golden cobnut oil is bottled and labelled. The oil tasted clean, fresh and nutty and I can understand why it beat off 6,000 other entries to win the 2010 National Taste Award. If you’re passing Fortnum and Masons on Piccadilly, you can buy the oil there! – Nearer to home, you can order it at a much more sane price from Kentish Stores! No real surprise that Mr Dain and Hurstwood Farm have come up trumps with their cobnut oil, when you consider Mr Dain built his own Kentish barn at the farm which houses a beautiful selection of grand pianos for sale! Just another challenge to which he rose!
